The Challenge

Rank Crankers is a digital marketing agency providing paid media, SEO, analytics and business intelligence services across a diverse set of clients. As their company was growing, they had some concerns:

1. Growth of company and data access
   How would they give the right people appropriate access to reports? They recognized that some people are on a team for one client and should see data for that client, but they should not see data for other clients.

2. Billing automation
   One of the partners did all the invoicing manually. Each month, they examined all advertising providers and mediums and entered the data into a spreadsheet. It was functional, but it was taking too much time. Clearly, it was not a sustainable method, nor a good use of the partner’s time. They also knew that, as they grew, the process would take even longer and there might also be a greater likelihood for mistakes.

3. Data ownership
   The campaign performance data was stored on the advertising provider’s services. At the time, it was accessible on demand, but they were aware of moves by the advertising provider(s) to limit access or charge for access to historical data. Since it was unclear how Google Adwords, Bing Ads, Yahoo Gemini, Facebook Ads, etc. would change their data policies in the future, Rank Crankers wanted to keep their own copy of all data.

The Strategy

Partnering with Rank Crankers, Code Pros was able to understand and address all three major concerns by creating a data warehouse to store all historical data. We automated data intake into the warehouse and set up automated processes to pull data from the advertising providers as often as every hour. We also automated the safe storage of all data in the warehouse, with proper access given to partners and employees as determined by top-level management.

The Solution

1. Since creating the storage solution, data access is no longer an issue for Rank Crankers. They can easily administer levels of permission and who has access to which types of data. The process has been further streamlined to manage access through one set of credentials, rather than having to manage access over the 5+ advertising providers they use.

2. Billing was automated, and now invoices can be generated from the data in their data warehouse. A set of queries will provide all the performance and billing data in seconds, automatically.

3. The data ownership problem was solved because Rank Crankers will no longer need to get historical data from anyone. They already have it securely protected for full access at any time in the future.

The Outcome

With solutions from Code Pros in place, Rank Crankers is able to run more efficiently, and its partners are able to use their time to grow their business with confidence. All members of the team have appropriate access to data to serve their clients with excellence. The partner can devote time to account management, business development and marketing, rather than manually locating and entering data into the system. This was a huge time savings for the company. The partners no longer have concerns about retrieving or losing their data since it has truly become their data –securely backed up and ready for use as needed.

In addition, the rapid reporting capabilities has become an additional product Rank Crankers can serve their clients with.

When we laid out our plans for where we wanted our tech stack to be, it became clear our vision was grander than our current capabilities.
